Penny and Buck Cake

If you do not live in Utah, these two pigs may not seem familiar to you.

But if you do, you may recognize them as the AFCU (America First Credit Union) mascots.  Yes, they are talking piggy banks, the pink one is Penny and the blue one is name Buck.
My husband works for AFCU, and I was trying to think of something for his cake that I haven't done. I  was a bit stumped because I feel like I have already done the other obvious themes for his birthday.
The idea came into my head that I should take his cake to his work, which then made me think to do these little guys. In the end I didn't take it to his work. But stuck with the theme.
I kept the cake underneath the pigs plain, because I didn't want it to distract from the piggies.
Each pig was made from rice crispy treats, covered in frosting and then two layers of mmf. The cake was super moist white cake with vanilla almond cream cheese frosting, (because that is my fav, and I knew I was going to get some of this one :)
I think I met the goal, ( he was surprised, and I think, got a laugh out of it.) I definitely don't think he was expecting these two on his cake.

Koala cupcakes

My sister lives in Australia, (home of the cute and furry koala bear.) She was here visiting this summer. But, then of course she had to go back down under. When she was heading home, we had a little farewell party. So I whipped up these little cuties.
These little dudes were just the fondant toppers to a moist white cupcake, filled with strawberry filling, and then topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
Doesn't she look happy to go home, now that she has a cute koala cupcake?  She is the one on the right, that's me in the black. Doesn't everyone need a sweet treat when leaving? It makes the farewell sweeter :) G'day mate!

Animal Cake

Well, it seems that muppets are in this year. This is the 2nd muppet themed cake I have done in the last 6 months. This cake was made for little Jude, for his first birthday.

This was chocolate cake, with vanilla almond cream cheese frosting, covered in mmf.
And this little dude was for him to smash. A tiny little chocolate cake, covered in buttercream. (It's best not to use fondant for a smash cake, because buttercream is easier to smush and make a big mess out of.)

I really like how these turned out.  You'd be surprised at the amount of time I looked at pictures of the little muppet while I was doing this, I think I'm starting to really like this animal muppet.

Barbie Cake

This is my second cake I have made for little Taya. I was told that this year she wanted a barbie cake. Not to be confused with the cakes that have an actual barbie coming out of them, but just a barbie themed cake. And I could do it however I wanted.
My sister-in-law made a cake similar to this a couple of years ago, and I had helped her figure out how to do it. I loved the idea of doing the barbie sillouhette, so I drew it up and cut it out of fondant.
I wanted to add some shoes,  to make it extra girly, and I figured you have to have pink, and finished it off with a side bow.

It turned out simple and cute. I was told she loved it.

Topsy Turvy Wedding Cake

Well, it's official, I have finally made and delivered a wedding cake. And it made it there completely successfully too. I have done a couple of cakes that were almost as big, but not quite. Originally the bride had a pretty funky vision in her mind with this cake. She had wanted to swirl black through the purple and blue layers, and put all black accents.
But then she found some statues that were a creamy white color that she wanted to incorporate, so we changed our design. I have to say I was nervous about giving wedding guests, cake with black on it to eat. Because you can end up with a yucky looking black mouth. So I thought the creamy white was a safer option for sure. I was hoping that she would still love it when she saw that the colors were not so dramatic. But I think she did.
She was really into the crooked shapes of the cake. I have to say it was my first time doing a topsy turvy cake, and it turned out great. Each layer consisted of 3 cakes instead of 2, so it made it a bit harder to cover in fondant. Each layer has two colors swirled together.
When I delivered the cake, the bride had forgotten her statues, so I had to whip something up to put on top to take it's place. And she was going to end up putting her statues on the table if they made it in time. Luckily I had my stuff with me, just in case.
The two bottom tiers were chocolate cake, and the top tier was white. All were frosted in almond vanilla buttercream and covered in mmf.
Congrats to the happy couple!

Caterpillar Cupcake Cake

I did this one for my cute client Ann. She is the relief society president in her calling at church. She was having a meeting for all the people that help her out, and wanted to give them a special treat. So she decided on a cute colorful caterpillar.

So, wa'la! Here he is, with some edible antennas and a body, that is easily pulled apart and eaten.
She wanted it to be very colorful. I have to admit the colors look a little bit muted in the pictures. They were a bit more bright in real life. I did six different colors alltogether. Don't you just love these little feeties?

One last look at the cute little guy!

Olympic Pool Cake

This is my first cake ever that I have done for a complete stranger. So hopefully she liked it.  :)
She was in charge of her ward's youth conference. And the theme was the olympics, and somewhat intermixed with glowsticks, or something, so it was mushed into glowolympics.
The picture that she had seen had a blue square of fondant sitting on a white cake. So I decided I could do better than that. So I carved down to make a pool shape, tiled around it, and then on top of blue fondant added blue colored piping gel, (that makes it look much more realistically like water.)
Now, one thing she really wanted was that the buoy ropes look, like they actually do, in real life. With the round shapes and the red, white, and blue. I think I got it pretty good.  Then of course I added some olympic rings, and the swimmer's platforms.  This was my Too Much Strawberry Cake, with a cream cheese frosting.
Hopefully they didn't eat  it and get a cramp!
