Super Dad Cake

Clearly this is way later than father's day.
Just about this time, the super man movie came out and I thought it would be perfect idea to make a super- dad cake.

Zebra Cake

I loved how this cake turned out. This cake was to go with the cupcakes for a client's birthday.
She was pretty open to letting me do whatever I wanted. But she wanted red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting. Cream cheese frosting is better not to be covered in fondant, so we decided to make it roughly frosted to add texture.
I then added a fondant ribbon and handpainted the zebra striped on myself. And added a fun hot pink flower. I think it turned out fun and sassy.

Cabin Cake

I am sorry I have not posted in so long, I recently had a baby, and have gotten side- tracked form making cakes, and posting them.
This cake was for my sister in law's friend, who is actually now her fiance.
I loved making this cute little cabin, I added these cute little trees, each one a little different to add some fun forest effect to the trees.

Zebra Cupcakes with hot pink flowers

These little babies were made to go with a matching cake, which I will try to post next.
It was for a client's birthday. I was so proud of her for ordering a cake for herself. Us moms always get the shaft, because no one ever thinks to order or make a cake for us right?
These cupcakes were moist chocolate cake, with vanilla, almond cream cheese frosting, yum!

Bedding inspired floral design cake

So this cake is exactly what it sounds like. The girl sent me a picture of the baby's bedding, and wanted me to do a cake inspired by it. Sadly I deleted the picture of the bedding, because I wanted to show what it was inspired by, but you can take my word for it, that it looked a lot like the cake. :)
This was for a baby shower. She told me to decide on the flavor, so I figured I'd go with the most universally yummy: moist white cake, with almond vanilla buttercream.
I tried to give you a good view of every decoration on the cake.
This one was a bit time consuming, just because there are so many, colors and details, as well as the hand painting that I did, but I like the way it turned out. (And so did she.)

At first I thought the bedding might be a weird thing thing to inspire a cake, but I am really happy with the end result. I think the colors are fun and bold, and it has a fun design. Enjoy!

Easter Chocolate Pie

Yes, I am aware that it is way past Easter. And I am aware that this is not a cake, but I'm counting it anyway. Chocolate mouse pie is one of my husbands favs. and I was feeling a bit sick of cake this particular day, so this is what I made.
I made a cute little bunny and carrots out of fondant, to top of my chocolate "mud" pie. I thought it turned out fun. Just something fun and simple for the holiday.

Fire Truck Cake

This is my second fire truck cake, and it is similar to the first cake, but there are also some differences.
Sometimes I worry about doing the same cake twice, so I like to add a few changes to make it different. I added some more details this time and I think that turned out cute.

Still my favorite part of the cake is the ladder, which is made out of white chocolate. I think it adds a lot, and makes a big difference in the fun of the cake.

Overall, just a fun, cute cake!

Little Mermaid Cake

I have to say, I absolutely loved this cake. I was told I needed to do something with little mermaid, but that I had free reign to do whatever I wanted. I love when that happens!
When I first thought of little mermaid, I thought, I definitely needed to have her on the rock.
Other than that I just wanted to have lots of cute Ocean plants and creatures.
I tried to give you a view from every side of the cake.
Yes, this cake is a little busy, and has a lot of things going on, but I love it still.
I am pretty sure this cake was my yummy, moist, chocolate cake, with vanilla buttercream.

And of course Flounder is up on top. I was going to make Sebastian, but in the end there was so much going on I felt there was no where else to put him anyway, so I left him out.

Gender Reveal Cupcakes

I saw a picture of cupcakes like these about a year ago, and have been waiting for chance to make some. The purpose of these cupcakes is to reveal the gender of baby you are having.
When you bite into these delish little treats you are either shown blue or pink filling which of course reveals wether you are having a girl or boy.
In this case, of course the gender is girl. These were to reveal the gender of my third baby. These were chocolate cupcakes with vanilla almond cream cheese filling. Covered in chocolate ganache.

Cute textured cake

This is one of those cakes that I had been wanting to try for awhile. It's a simple technique with buttercream, but I love the finished look.

It was a perfect day to try this cake, because I had only a couple hours to make the whole thing, from start to finish.
I made a quick ruffled fondant flower to add some fun color. The cake is yummy moist white cake, with vanilla almond buttercream. Sometimes I just love doing something simple like this. The up side to this cake is it looks so much prettier than just frosting a cake. I love the cute texture this technique give the cake.

Firetruck themed cupcakes

I was doing a cake and cupcakes for a firetruck themed party. So I will post these, and then post the cake in another post. We wanted to have a variety of different things on the cupcakes. So here are some with cute little fireman hats. (The number 4 because that's how old the birthday boy was turning.)
I hand cut these little fire hydrants
Of course you have to have some little fire trucks.
And the fire man's best friend, the firehouse dalmatian.
I loved the way these turned out, it was fun. The cupcakes were my from scratch chocolate recipe, with vanilla almond cream cheese frosting. The decorations were all mmf.

Brave themed Cake

This cake is themed after Disney's Brave. Which features Merida. (She's the one with all the curly red hair.)
In the movie, Merida gives her mom a magic cake which changes her into a bear. They frequent this area with the stones quite a bit, and in the end she is able to turn her mom back into a human. My Reese  thinks it's very funny that the mom is naked, and it was her request that the mom be naked, (with the blanket covering her.) So I left out a little shoulder and a tiny bit of knee.
Merida is very talented at archery, and so that is why we have the bullseye's with the arrows. Just thought I'd give you a close up of those.
Here's a top view, it was a fun cake to make.
By request, this cake was strawberry, with strawberry frosting, which was not so much because of the flavor, but that it would make the inside pink. Because I think it was just killing her that nothing on the outside was pink.
