Bridal Shower Cupcakes

For a bridal shower, I whipped up 48 of these little cuties. She didn't care about the colors or what was on them, so I chose turquoise and coral, because I think that is such a pretty combination.
Some of the flowers had edible pearls in the center, just for a cute touch.
These cupcakes were Red Velvet, with White Cream Cheese frosting.

And the other half was moist white cake, with orange creamcicle frosting.
I think they turned out great!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake

Have you ever read the children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle. It is such a cute book.
In the book, the warm sun comes up and the little caterpillar pops out of his egg, and he is very hungry.
So the cute little caterpillar starts to look for some food.
He eats his way through quite a bit of food. ( I did not get all the food on here.)
In the book all the illustrations have a very hand painted look to them, and that is what I love about them. So to capture that I hand painted everything. I have to say I love the way it turned out.
(If you're wondering why all the food has holes in them, it's because the caterpillar eats his way through them.)
After the caterpillar eats his way through all that food, he has a stomach ache!
Then he eats through one nice green leaf. And he (after being in a cocoon,) turns into a butterfly. Which I actually had, but felt there was already so much going on that there was just no more room to put on a big hand painted butterfly.
This cake was chocolate cake, with vanilla almond buttercream. And I have to say, it is one of my new favorites!

Tinkerbell, and Perriwinkle Cake

I have to say, that I surprisingly enough have still not seen this movie.
But apparently in the movie, we find out that Tinkerbell has a sister, who is a snow fairy, or winter fairy, something like that. :)
So I did one side with snowflakes, and handpainted icicles. And the other side with grass and flowers.

The girls who wanted this cake, are of course, twins. And they love that Tinkerbell has a sister now, like they do.

I was told by one of these girls that next year she wants the same thing, but she wants the fairies to move, and then for their wings to glow. I told her that probably isn't going to happen.

Mini Cheesecake Conversation Hearts

I thought I'd better post these before it gets too far away from Valentine's Day. I always love to make holiday themed treats, and I actually saw this idea on pinterest, and had to do it. It's a cheesecake recipe, and I just divided the cheesecake mixture into 6 bowl and tinted them with food coloring. (I use gel food color.) Each cake was made using a silicone heart shaped mold, baked in a water bath.
To release them from the mold I let them cool for about an hour, then place them in the freezer for about two more. They came right out. While frozen I painted the words on them using red gel food color. Aren't they so cute? I love the way they turned out, and I have to tell you they were very tasty as well. Happy Valentine's Day.

Piped swirls cake

I went to a "Day of Sharing" for an Ices club. (Which is basically a cake club.) It was really cool, in one of the presentations this lady was doing this technique using piping gel and painting it with vodka and luster dust.
So the next week when I could do whatever I wanted, this is what I wanted to do. Now the one downside was that I didn't have piping gel that day, so I had to pipe with frosting, and paint with luster dust.
The overall effect was definitely more bold, and less clear and iridescent, which was one thing really pretty doing it with clear piping gel, but overall I still liked it. I think it was pretty.
I tried to give you all the angles. Piping is definitely not my strongest cake skill, because mostly I just work with fondant, but I'm working on it and I think I'm getting a little bit  better anyway.

Bridal Cake

Sometimes cakes turn out just the way you hoped they would, and this was one of those times. To make it more personal I asked for a picture of the bride in her dress. and her colors. Her dress was so pretty I immediately wanted to make a bride on top of the cake.
She had one of those dresses that bunches in different places, I think I was able to replicate it pretty well.
I liked the way she turned out. And they seemed to be happy with it that it looked pretty much like her.
I actually don't like to put ribbons on the bottom of cakes very much, because I like to show that I can get the fondant on the bottom smooth and not have to cover it. But the cake definitely needed something else and I wanted to tie in the tie and bow that goes around her dress.
Personally I like cakes better without words, so that is why I took the pictures above before I put the words on. Below is the finished cake with the words.

Christmas cupcakes

I almost forgot about these, which is why I'm posting them quite a bit after Christmas.

I wanted these cupcakes to be simple and delicious. Red Velvet cake, with my white chocolate cream cheese frosting.
And I just added some simple little gingerbread men, and candy canes. Simple but yummy!
