Owl Cake

This cake was made for little Jaylee, her invitations sported a picture of this cute colorful owl. I actually don't have a picture of the invitation to show, but I pretty much matched the colors and patterns, except for one or two tiny changes.

They hadn't asked for it, but I just felt that the big owl needed a little buddy. I don't know why, I just thought it would be cute, so that's why this little guy is on there. And he did turn out cute huh?
I have to admit this cake took me so much longer than I was expecting. Since it isn't that big, I thought it would be pretty but. I think it was mostly because there were so many different colors, textures, and patterns involved.
This is my second owl cake I have done, and I assume it will not be the last, considering owls are so "in" right now. But this one was quite different than my first owl. I have to say, my fav part is the little guy. Who doesn't love a cute little owl cake that you could fit in your hand, who...who...

Patriotic Cupcakes, and Strawberries

I am skipping a couple other cakes, but I wanted to post these before it got too far away from the holiday. I love the forth of July, and I always love to make patriotic food and or treats.
These were just as yummy as they look. Fresh strawberries dipped in white chocolate then airbrushed to add a stripe of blue. These babies went fast.
Now, I had a hard time trying to decide if I should make a cake, a fruit pizza, or what. But I ended on cupcakes because, who doesn't like their own little cake? (Now I'm aware this is not a unique idea.) But this is new to me, and I think they turned out super cute. The batter was layered in Red, White, and blue. And the frosting was red, white and blue as well. Of course topped with a nice white star.

Here's a better view of the cupcake and the different layers of batter. I think they turned out fun. Happy Birthday America!

Yummy cupcakes

Ok, so I know that there is nothing super cool, visually about these cupcakes. But they were so yummy and sometimes isn't that all that matters? I was going on a family vacation to Bear Lake, and needed a treat to bring. Lately my sister has told me that she loves cupcakes, so I wanted to make something for her. I used my already super moist, super chocolatey cake recipe. But I wanted to try something I hadn't tried before, filling.

I have never put a filling in a cupcake before and had been wanting to try it. I was wondering if it would be too much, with the frosting on top as well. But, oh man, it was not too much at all. Instead of traditional frosting on top, I made a batch of Chocolate Ganache, and whipped it, with just a little bit of powdered sugar, to make it the consistency I wanted.  The filling was vanilla/almond buttercream. It was perfect because I feel like it broke up, what could have been a chocolate overload.
My husband had my camera, so forgive me that these photos are from my phone. On top of these cupcakes I just used a few edible gold stars, to keep it pretty, and simple. mmmmm, my mouth is watering right now just thinking about these. My sister loved them so much, she wouldn't let any of the kids eat them!

Ombre Fish Cake

Last, but certainly not least. This is one my favorites of the bunch.
Now if you have read some of my earlier posts, you would know that I have a thing for ombre. (Which is the variation of color from light to dark.) So when I knew I was going to make six different fish themed cakes, that at least one of them had to be ombre.
I'm not positive, but I think this one was my yummy white cake, with orange creamcicle frosting.
I liked this cute little fish, I decided to make him the same color as the fish I made last year, because I thought the color was so fun. Also Orange against blue really stands out. I really liked this one.
Now that was the last of the six cakes that I made in one day. It was a big day, but I got it all done. Now that they are all posted we can move on to the other cakes.

Sand Bucket Cake

Well we are almost done with this round of cakes, only one more after this one.
This one had a few issues, but it was a fun cake none the less. I used modeling chocolate to make the handle and shovel. And I used my airbrush to paint them blue.
I think this one was my yummy pumpkin chocolate chip cake, with cream cheese frosting. I know pumpkin chocolate chip is more of a fall time flavor of cake. But it is one of the yummiest, so I made it any way. Happy sand digging.
